Developer joins TRD’s Coffee Talk as he nears the end of a major renovation and reveals how he’s pushing forward amid drama

Michael Shvo is gearing up to reopen the Transamerica Pyramid — as he contends with market challenges in San Francisco and beyond. 

In an exclusive “Coffee Talk” interview with The Real Deal’s founder Amir Korangy, Shvo shared insights into his ambitious real estate projects, notably the transformation of the San Francisco trophy tower in collaboration with Norman Foster.

The developer explained how the building represents his American dream.

Shvo also discussed some of his other recent wins. The Mandarin Oriental condominiums in New York has sold 32 percent of its units for around $5,400 per square foot. And his Raleigh project in Miami has sold 4,000 units at record prices.

He’s also recently had to confront some challenges, including a $600 million lawsuit from the Core Club, but Shvo remains optimistic about his high-end market strategy and future ventures.
