The members of West Palm Beach’s Temple Israel approved a $30 million deal to sell a majority of the synagogue’s waterfront campus to Related Ross, following a redesign of the developer’s planned Shorecrest condos.

Previous plans included 21,500 square feet for a house of worship and a daycare at the project at 1901 North Flagler Drive, with the intent that Temple Israel would occupy the space. Temple leaders “came to the realization it would be preferable to have their own standalone curb appeal and their own standalone operation,” Bryan Cho, executive vice president of Related Ross, told The Real Deal last month.

Temple Israel’s congregation voted on Dec. 3 to approve the sale, a spokesperson confirmed. The approval was first reported by the Palm Beach Post. The deal counts for two-thirds of the synagogue’s 1.8-acre campus, and it plans to sell the remaining third to a separate, to-be-determined buyer, the Post reported. Temple Israel celebrated 100 years in West Palm Beach last year, and has occupied its current North Flagler Drive campus since 1953, according to its website.

The temple has not yet secured a new location for its campus.

Related Ross, led by billionaire developer Steve Ross, relaunched the Shorecrest project last month. Originally planned as a 26-story, 140-unit condominium, Shorecrest will now have 28 stories and 199 units. While prices for the first iteration ranged from $1.3 million to $9 million, prices for the project now range from $1 million to $6 million. Groundbreaking is slated for 2026, with completion estimated for 2028, a spokesperson confirmed.

Cho said Shorecrest is meant to appeal to luxury buyers at lower prices than Related’s nearby planned South Flagler House. The developer launched sales for the waterfront 28-story, 108-unit project last year, with prices ranging from $5.9 million to $72.5 million.

Both Shorecrest and South Flagler House are part of a wave of luxury condo development in West Palm Beach, where more than 6,600 residential units are in the works.
