Buyer of David Grutman’s Miami Beach house flips it for $10M

Waterfront home sold for its asking price

About four months after hospitality mogul David Grutman sold his Miami Beach house, the buyer flipped it for nearly $2 million more.

Property records show the 2201 Sunset Trust sold 2201 Sunset Drive to Ari B. Sussman and Laurel Sussman. The trust, managed by attorney Mark Bryn, sold the waterfront Sunset Islands home for $10.2 million, its asking price.

Ari Sussman is the former CEO of Continental Gold, a Toronto-based gold mining company.

Grutman sold the five-bedroom, six-bathroom house for $8.3 million in November. The 6,673-square-foot home, on Sunset Island IV, includes a pool, 208 feet of water frontage, a gym, a secret garden and two terraces.

Dina Goldentayer of Douglas Elliman, who represented Grutman in the November sale, also represented the seller the second time around. It was listed in December for $10.2 million.

The home was built in 1937 and later expanded.

In November, Grutman bought the property at 2050 North Bay Road for $10.3 million, where he plans to build a 13,903-square-foot mansion, designed by Cesar Molina’s CMA Design Studio.

Grutman is living at the Zaha Hadid-designed One Thousand Museum condo tower in Miami while his new home gets built.

Sunset Islands homes have been in demand in recent months. In January, spec home developer Todd Michael Glaser and his partner Rony Seikaly sold a waterfront Sunset Islands mansion to a venture capital investor Jason Wright for $18.5 million.

Earlier this year, Venezuelan oil tycoon Gerardo Pantin Shortt sold his waterfront Sunset Islands II mansion for $17.4 million.
