A construction worker died after he fell at a project site in Miami Beach.

A 35-year-old was killed on Monday morning after falling from the third story to the second story of the Chetrit Group’s redevelopment of the Collins Park Hotel, Miami Beach Fire Chief Jorge Linares confirmed. The worker was punctured by rebar, and transferred to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition, where he died shortly after. Authorities have not identified him.

Miami Beach Police and the Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration will investigate the accident, which marks at least the second one in recent months where a worker has died in Miami Beach. In July, a project manager was killed after the former Marlborough House building unexpectedly collapsed at 5775 Collins Avenue.

The Rinaldi Group of Florida is the general contractor for the Chetrit project. CG Sunny Isles, led by Joseph Chetrit, who heads the New York-based development firm, is redeveloping the block between Park and Washington avenues, and 20th and 21st streets. The apartment building at 2001 Washington Avenue called The Allen is not a part of the project.

Kobi Karp is designing the 294-key hotel development, which calls for four new buildings with 172,000 square feet, underground parking and an interior courtyard. It’s across the street from the newly renovated Miami Beach Convention Center.

The structural engineer is WH Consulting Engineers and the civil engineer is Ocean Engineering Inc., according to Rinaldi’s website. The $42.3 million project is about 60 percent completed, the website says.

Chetrit closed on $55 million in financing for the project in 2015.

A spokesperson for Rinaldi did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The company, led by Anthony T. Rinaldi, is based in Secaucus, New Jersey.
