David Beckham’s partner Jorge Mas is presenting a plan for a major mixed-use soccer complex in the city of Miami, and is expected to go public with the proposal at a Miami City Commission meeting next month.

Beckham and his partners officially announced the Major League Soccer team earlier this year, but the stadium plans – including the location – have been up in the air for years. Mas, a MasTec executive, confirmed on Tuesday plans for a “world class park, soccer village and tech hub.”

The group hired Arquitectonica to design renderings of the plan, which calls for a stadium, hotel, retail space, public soccer fields and a public park, according to the Miami Herald. Mas is also reportedly meeting with city of Miami commissioners this week, and plans to debut the plans at the commission meeting on July 12.

City of Miami voters would have to approve any plans to redevelop the Melreese Golf Course, rumored to the Mas brothers’ preferred stadium location. To make it on the November ballot, commissioners would have to approve a referendum July 12 or July 26.

The group is not expected to choose Overtown, where Beckham and his partners assembled 6 acres for $19 million in 2016 and are under contract to purchase another 3 acres from the county. Another potential site is in Doral, where David Martin and Stephen Bittel own a large site leased to PepsiCo. [Miami Herald] – Katherine Kallergis
