JKM Developers is doing away with a plan to build single-family homes at a mixed-use project in Boynton Beach, instead proposing building more rentals and townhomes at the Cortina development in Boynton Village and Town Center.
JKM wants to build 378 apartments and townhomes instead of 115 single-family homes at Cortina. The commission will vote on the proposal in May. The developer already received approvals last year to replace 640 planned condos with a 324-unit rental building by Alta Developers, according to the Palm Beach Post.
The Boynton Village project includes a commercial component home to tenants that include Target, Michael’s, Red Lobster and Total Wine & More.
If approved, the developer would also have to pay the county’s school district more than $26,000 in consideration that the area’s elementary schools don’t have the capacity to fit the additional residents.
JKM joins a lists of other developers that are switching from single-family home plans to multifamily, which commissioner Justin Katz said is in line with the changing home ownership trends. [Palm Beach Post] – Amanda Rabines
