Stiles advances Westerra project in Sunrise

The mixed-use development would include 750 residential units and 750,000 square feet of office space

Sunrise city commissioners unanimously approved a rezoning proposal by Stiles Corp. for a mixed-use development called Westerra.

The city commissioners rezoned about 32 acres west of the Sawgrass Mills shopping center from “office and recreation” to “planned development district.”

Commissioners are scheduled to vote a second and final time on the Westerra development on April 10 after Stiles submits a more detailed site plan.

Fort Lauderdale-based Stiles plans to build 750 residential units and 750,000 square feet of office space, plus another 50,000 square feet of commercial space.

Stiles also plans 1.6 acres of park and open space at the Westerra development site on the south side of Sunrise Boulevard, east of Northwest 136th Avenue.

The municipal government of Sunrise is working with the Florida Department of Transportation to improve traffic signals where Sunrise Boulevard crosses Northwest 136th Avenue.

Westerra has been in the works since 2005, when a partnership formed by the late Terry Stiles, the founder of Stiles Corp., acquired the land for the development. [Sun-Sentinel] Mike Seemuth
