The group behind the restoration of the Miami Marine Stadium just released a $40 million renovation plan for the historic and heavily graffitied landmark property, according to the Miami Herald.

The city of Miami hired architects, engineers and other consultants to come up with the plan, after voting in favor of borrowing up to $45 million to restore the dormant space last year, the Herald reported.

The publicly-owned land will be restored into a multi-use venue, according to the renovation plan. Features include disabled-friendly restrooms, concessions, office space and high-tech sound and lighting, as well as a new floating stage for concerts and performances with dressing rooms for artists.

The next step is for the city to put the construction drawings out to bid. The Herald reported that city administrators have received at least four responses of interest. SMG Management, which manages the city’s Knight Center and the Superdome in New Orleans, is one of them. A New York-based events company called iDEKO Productions, is another, according to the Herald.

The long-time batted-around renovation plan is part of a larger revamp of the barrier island of Virginia Key. The city is also redeveloping its two marinas next to the stadium. [Miami Herald]Amanda Rabines
