Sunrise-based GL Homes wants to increase the number of homes it can build in Palm Beach County’s Agricultural Reserve, a 22,000-acre zone west of Boynton Beach and Delray Beach, in exchange for preserving land elsewhere in the county. The county government requires that developers conserve 60 acres in the reserve for every 40 acres they develop.

GL Homes wants the county to change that rule so it can build more homes on land it owns in the reserve, in exchange for conserving land in a 4,900-acre tract known as Indian Trails Grove, where the company has county approval to build 3,900 homes. Adjacent to this tract of land is The Indian Trails Improvement District, whose board has voted unanimously to support GL’s proposal. The district oversees road and water services for The Acreage, a residential community with a population of 38,000. [Palm Beach Post]Mike Seemuth
