Epicure Gourmet Market & Café is closing in Sunny Isles Beach on March 26, as it consolidates its operations at its original Miami Beach store, The Real Deal has learned.
Gil Dezer, president of Dezer Development, owns the building at 17190 Collins Avenue that Epicure leases and told TRD it was a “mutual walkaway.” The store is ending its lease early, with five or six years left on its term, he said.
“They had seen a decline in sales and were ready to consolidate operations,” Dezer said. “External pressures caused them to lose market share.”
Jason Starkman, Epicure’s owner, said in a statement that the company will continue to operate at its 1656 Alton Road location in South Beach, its site for more than 70 years. “We are actively looking for new locations to better serve our customers’ needs in the long term,” he said, “while also introducing our online store.”
The move marks the second time the storied market has shuttered a location in the past two years, after closing its 24,000-square-foot location at 4711 Le Jeune Road in Coral Gables in mid-2015.
Sunny Isles Beach is booming with new condo construction, including Dezer’s Porsche Design Tower which recently opened. Others in the works include Jade Signature, Muse Residences, Estates at Acqualina, and Turnberry Ocean Club.
