President-elect Donald Trump is looking to land his helicopter on sturdier ground for his trips to Mar-a-Lago.

Trump will reportedly ask the Town of Palm Beach and the National Trust for Historic Preservation for permission to build a concrete landing pad at the historic Palm Beach estate, according to the Palm Beach Daily News.

Traveling by air from Palm Beach International Airport would allow car traffic to move freely on Southern Boulevard, architect Rick Gonzales told the newspaper. Gonzalez is working with the Trumps on the project, which would be located on the western part of the 17.5-acre property.

Cereal tycoon Marjorie Merriweather Post built the estate in 1920s, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. The group of preservationists want to make sure the landing pad isn’t “garish,” according to the Palm Beach Daily News.

“They don’t want the concrete to be bright white,” Gonzalez told the newspaper. “The concrete will have a nice mellow color.”

It could be completed as early as this summer, and likely cost less than $50,000 to build.  [Palm Beach Daily News] – Katherine Kallergis
