Stock Island, the working class island located immediately to the east of Key West, is scheduled to see the debut of its first resort next week.

Oceans Edge Key West Hotel & Marina, a 175-room hotel located on the former Oceanside Marina property along Stock Island’s Atlantic shoreline, is slated for a Jan. 12 opening. The start of business for what spokesman Bryan Barbieri said was a $25 million project will come less than one-and-a-half years after local developer the Singh Co. broke ground on the project.

“With each property, we set out to create an authentic experience that is truly local, with exceptional value,” Singh Co. owner Pritam Singh told The Real Deal in an emailed statement.

Among Singh’s other Keys projects are The Marker Resort in Key West, Parrot Key Resort in Key West, Tranquility Bay Beach House Resort in Marathon and the ritzy Truman Annex housing development in Key West.

Amenities at Oceans Edge, located at 5950 Peninsular Avenue on Stock Island, include six swimming pools, a Starbucks, the Yellow Fin Bar & Grille and an on-site water sports and paddle shop. The resort’s marina has a total of 163 wet and dry slips, of which 16 slips are dedicated to hotel guests. In addition, charter fishing guides operate out of the marina, Barbieri said.

The resort is spread over 20 acres, with its 175 units split between four buildings. Each Oceans Edge room has an outdoor balcony and waterfront views, a feature that is unique to the hotel among all Key West area resorts, according to the developers. Oceans Edge is also dog friendly and has its own dog park.

Opening rates start at $279.

Stock Island, located immediately east of Key West, is the Southernmost City’s less glamorous cousin. It’s home to tightly packed housing, where many Key West workers live, and to boatyards and fish houses on its southern edge. That waterfront, however, has caught the interest of developers.

The resort is the first of two scheduled to open during the first half of this year along Stock Island’s Atlantic waterfront. It will be joined by the $38 million, 100-room Hotel Key West at Stock Island, which is located on nearby Shrimp Road. No official opening date for that property has been set.

Singh purchased Oceanside Marina for $5 million in June 2013 from BB&T bank, which had taken over the deed as part of a foreclosure action.
