For cousins Keith Menin and Jared Galbut, the Shelborne hotel in Miami Beach was one of their first jobs in the hospitality industry. And now they’ll be returning in a bigger way.

Menin Hospitality has taken over management of the Shelborne South Beach as of Thursday, replacing Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, Jared Galbut told The Real Deal. Wyndham operated the hotel for about three years.

Flag Luxury Group, developer Russell Galbut and other partners own the 200-room hotel at 1801 Collins Avenue. The owners recently invested more than $150 million into the property, which was built in 1940. It features a full-service spa, 15,000 square feet of meeting space, the Drawing Room Bar & Lounge, and the Sarsaparilla Club, a restaurant by “Top Chef” alumni Jeff McInnis and Janine Booth. Menin will brand the Shelborne spa as a GUYandGIRL spa, according to a press release.

The Shelborne has been in the Menin/Galbut family for decades. Keith Menin, principal at Menin Hospitality, was a bellman at the hotel when he was 12 or 13 years old, managing principal Jared Galbut told TRD. “Our parents used to be owners way back in the ’80s [and we watched] them go through the construction and renovation,” he said. “We’re really excited to have it back as part of our family.”

Galbut declined to disclose terms of the deal, but said the company is “hoping to be there a while.” The condo-hotel also has nearly 60 condo units, which Menin Hospitality will not manage.

Menin’s portfolio of nearly 1,000 hotel rooms includes Mondrian South Beach, the Gale and Kaskades. It also runs Radio Bar, Bodega Taquería y Tequila, Halves & Wholes and Ricky’s.
