Crews top off West Palm Beach train station

Construction crews topped off the train station in downtown West Palm Beach for All Aboard Florida’s Brightline passenger rail service in South Florida, with downtown stops in Miami and Fort Lauderdale.

Contractors topped off the Fort Lauderdale station September 16 as All Aboard Florida prepares to launch its Brightline rail service next summer.

The Coral Gables-based company plans eventually to  expand the rail service from South Florida to Orlando.

“We continue to progress at a rapid pace on the development of our stations and trains,” Mike Reininger, president of Brightline, said in a written statement.

Reininger joined West Palm Beach Mayor Jeri Muoio, Palm Beach County Commissioner Steve Abrams and Bob Moss, chairman and CEO of Moss & Associates, the general contractor for the the West Palm Beach station, at a topping-off ceremony for the station on Friday, marking the completion of station’s vertical construction.

So far, crews have poured, more than 4,500 cubic yards of concrete for the station. Upcoming phases of the project include installation of the platform canopy foundations, the platform structure, roofing, exterior glazing and interior partitions. Interior work on mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems is also getting under way now.

The Brightline station West Palm Beach, designed to span 60,000 square feet, is being built on a site flanked by South Rosemary Street, South Quadrille Boulevard, Datura Street and Evernia Street.

Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLC planned and designed the station together wwith Miami-based Zyscovich Architects.
