Watch MiamiCentral’s station foundation take shape: VIDEO

The final and largest concrete pour at MiamiCentral’s Brightline station was undertaken last weekend, marking another step in the development of All Aboard Florida’s new commuter development in downtown Miami.

Construction workers poured more than 5,500 cubic yards of concrete at the site as a conga line of 550 truckloads were delivered over an 18-hour period. Suffolk Construction is overseeing the construction of MiamiCentral and the station.

The development is being built alongside downtown Miami’s existing Government Center Metromover Station at 101 Northwest First Street.

MiamiCentral will be the last stop along All Aboard Florida’s rail line to Orlando, which is slated to open mid-year 2017. The nine-acre development will also include roughly 200,000 square feet of retail space, plus four mixed-use towers that will rise above the rail tracks.

The rail service, officially named Brightline, is expected to ferry millions of passengers each year between its stops in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach and Orlando. Travel times are slated to be less than 30 minutes between Miami and Fort Lauderdale, less than 60 minutes between Miami and West Palm Beach, and roughly three hours for the entire stretch. Ticket prices have not yet been revealed.

Construction of a separate building dubbed Three MiamiCentral Station is also underway. The building will primarily serve as a parking garage, but will also have office space and a yet-to-be-named grocery tenant on the ground floor. — Sean Stewart-Muniz
