UPDATED 12/2/2015 6:40 p.m. A construction worker was reportedly killed Wednesday in an accident at the site of Biscayne Beach, an upcoming condo tower in Miami’s Edgewater neighborhood.

The worker was hit by a piece of equipment while working on the 37th floor of the job site at 711 Northeast 29th Street, NBC 6 reported. Miami Fire-Rescue arrived at the scene, but the worker died from his injuries.

The news station reported that a piece of equipment came loose as it was being lifted by a crane. It hit the worker, who then died on-site.

Miami Fire-Rescue will have to use a special team to bring down the body, NBC 6 reported. An investigation of the incident is ongoing.

Biscayne Beach is a 399-unit tower being developed by a joint-venture between GTIS Partners and Eastview Development. Construction work for the 51-story tower began in June 2014 and is expected to wrap up in December 2016.

Attempts by The Real Deal to reach either developer have so far been unsuccessful.

Eastview is also behind the Elysee condo project that recently launched sales.

This incident follows a New York Times investigation that found construction-related deaths and injuries have spiked in recent years, outpacing the rate of new development. Some local incidents include an early October construction accident when a worker was injured while on the job at a Midtown Miami site,  and a report in January when two workers were injured when a wall came crashing down on the 27th floor of a downtown Miami job site. [NBC 6] — Sean Stewart-Muniz
