Oakland Park is pressing the owners of two strip clubs on Federal Highway to shut down.

Solid Gold and Pure Platinum agreed in writing in 2004 to stop operating as adult entertainment businesses on Monday at midnight.

Under the 11-year-old agreement, the city has allowed the clubs to serve alcohol amid nude dancers who can make physical contact with guests, all violations of city business regulations.

D.J. Doody, the Plantation city attorney, said he sent notice of the Monday deadline but the strip clubs have not indicated that they will comply.

Doody said punishment for violations of the 2004 agreement range up to 60 days in jail and a $500 fine.

“I’ll support every legal measure available to enforce the deal and ensure their compliance,” Mayor Jed Shank told the Sun-Sentinel. “That just really irritates me that they’re going to screw around when we had a deal and for eleven years we left them alone.”

“Obviously, we’re going to seek emergency relief from the court,” Luke Lirot, an attorney representing Solid Gold and Pure Platinum, told the Sun-Sentinel.

Lirot said the clubs agreed with the city in 2004 “to close, not die.” He said the clubs have been unable to find new locations in Plantation: “We looked through the city. There’s no location for these businesses to go.” [Sun-Sentinel] — Mike Seemuth
