MCM will lead the $128 million expansion of the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, the construction company announced on Tuesday.

The project will include the eastern expansion of Concourse G, a new concourse, demolition of Concourse H, reconfiguration of the security screening checkpoint, new offices and the construction of the Federal Inspection Service’s new building.

The Broward County Commission voted unanimously to approve the award on Tuesday, according to a press release.

“The competitive process was challenging, but taxpayers can rest assured that the county did a great job selecting the best contractor to help modernize one of the county’s most important economic engines,” Arnstein & Lehr attorney Keith Poliakoff, who represented MCM, said in a statement. Poliakoff co-chairs the firm’s government relations practice group in Fort Lauderdale.

A groundbreaking is scheduled for the first quarter of next year. The overall expansion, valued at $450 million, includes an increase of commercial space from 2,000 square feet to 34,000 square feet. Bonds will be used to fund the project. It will also feature two public art projects.

The airport, at 100 Terminal Drive, offers nonstop flights to more than 100 cities in the United States, and flights to Canada, the Bahamas, Mexico, Latin America and Europe. – Katherine Kallergis
