PHOTOS: On the scene at Miami Worldcenter’s demolition event

Paramount Miami Worldcenter let the sledgehammers fly on Thursday, hosting a “Demolition event” to smash the former Mekka Nightclub, the last remaining building on the site of the future 60-story condominium tower.

The demolition paved the way for the start of construction of the Mall at Miami Worldcenter and Paramount Miami Worldcenter later this fall.

Paramount Miami Worldcenter is already 40 percent sold, according to Peggy Fucci, president and CEO of OneWorld Properties.

Scheduled for completion in 2018, the project’s 500 units range in size from 1,180 to 2,300 square feet, with prices averaging $700 per square foot. The tower will be constructed atop the Mall at Miami Worldcenter, a 765,000 square-foot retail and entertainment center anchored by Macy’s and Bloomingdales which will be developed by Forbes and Taubman. — Ina Cordle and Katherine Kallergis
