Segafredo coming to Bayside Marketplace

Segafredo, the popular Italian restaurant and bar, will open a new location at Bayside Marketplace by mid-April, as the downtown Miami shopping center embarks on a major upgrade.

The restaurant will have a free-standing, 500-square-foot kiosk with triangular awnings, a square bar and outdoor seating for 70, Graziano Sbroggio, president of Graspa Group and Segafredo told The Real Deal. The site is next to the Let’s Make a Daiquiri kiosk near the shopping center’s waterfront.

Sbroggio and his business partners, Luca Voltarel and Mark Soyka, also own the Segafredo on Lincoln Road in Miami Beach. They hold a franchise of the Italian-based chain Segafredo, a major coffee company based in Bologna, Italy.

“We took a territory from the [Miami] River all the way to 70th Street and from the bay to I-95,” Sbroggio told TRD. “So that is our territory and we committed to open two in five years.” A Segafredo on Brickell is part of a separate franchise, he said. In addition to the Segafredo in Miami Beach and the upcoming Bayside location, Graspa also owns three Spris pizza restaurants, Salumeria 104 and Midtown Oyster Bar, and is building a new Tiramesu in South Beach, which will open this summer.

Sbroggio said Segafredo at Bayside will have a similar menu as the Lincoln Road location, with tapas, sandwiches, salads, coffee and drinks, including a full liquor bar.

“We expect to be busy in the afternoons for an aperitif, and for a pre-game or post-game gathering,” he said, “because Bayside is always busy, but when there is an event at the Miami Arena, it gets a big flow.”

Bayside, owned by General Growth Properties, is set to undergo a major renovation. GGP recently hired Zyscovich Architects to revamp the outdoor common areas and waterfront plazas, expand the two-level parking garage and add retail space along Biscayne Boulevard. In December, General Growth boosted its $79 million mortgage to $250 million for the renovation and expansion.

The two-level, open-air center has 228,000 square feet of retail space, and more than 140 shops and restaurants. Among the stores are a Disney Store, GUESS, Gap, GapKids, babyGap, Victoria’s Secret, Express, Bath & Body Works and Brookstone. Restaurants include Hooters, Chili’s, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., Hard Rock Cafe, Lombardi’s, The Knife and Mambo’s Café, in addition to an air-conditioned food court. Bayside executives did not respond to requests for comments on the shopping center’s plans.

“It is a joint effort to put Segafredo in Bayside, because they wanted something more upscale than what they have now, and I think Segrafredo is a good fit,” Sbroggio said. “We are comfortable we will do very well.”
