Choo… Choo…
Miami Central Station, Miami-Dade County’s first all-inclusive ground transportation hub east of Miami International Airport, has been delayed — again.
Officials say it will now open in the summer of 2016 and will cost $2 billion, according to a published report. It was originally scheduled to open last fall.
The completed train station will include Tri-Rail and Amtrak stations in addition to the Metrorail and Metrobus stations that opened in 2012, as well an inter-city bus depot and lockers and showers for bicyclists. A rental car center opened in July 2010.
Several factors played a role in the delay of the completion of Miami Central Station, including unfinished work and safety and traffic issues, the Miami Herald reported. Construction began in 2011. [Miami Herald] — Kristina Puga
