The Holiday Inn downtown will soon be replaced by a 77-story mixed-use tower.

The city approved Center Miami’s project last week. The 935-foot skyscraper will be located across from Bayside Marketplace, adjacent to Bayfront Park, and sit three blocks from AmericanAirlines Arena at 340 Biscayne Boulevard.

Center Miami LLC reportedly plans to include 400 residences, 240 hotel rooms, 270,000 square feet of retail, 246,000 square feet of offices, and parking for 516 cars, on the property.

Sherri Gutierrez, vice president of architectural firm Arquitectonica, which designed the tower, told Miami Today that the design employs black, reflective and clear glass – and has a secondary outer façade spiraling around the main structure.

After much debate, board members unanimously recommended approval on the condition that the developer provide more detail of the exterior façade. The board is advisory  and makes recommendations to the planning director. The developer’s next step is to get building permits, after final review by the planning director.
