No new stadium plans after officials won’t bend for Beckham

It appears David Beckham’s plans to bring a Major League Soccer franchise to Miami are on hold after several potential stadium sites were rejected by officials.

The former Manchester United Star misfired on two sites when Miami-Dade commissioners refused to relocate a PortMiami fuel-spill facility in favor of a stadium, according to a published report.

And the normally accurate shooter scored an own-goal when his design plans for a $250 million, 20,000-seat stadium between Museum Park and AmericanAirlines Arena — a site suggested by Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez — were also rejected, the South Florida Business Journal reported.

The England international — who scored 115 goals for his country — has been silent on his plans after Major League Soccer booted a proposed site near Marlins Park because it was too far from Miami’s urban core and despite overtures from Broward County to build a stadium there, the publication reported.
