Environmental groups are expecting a fight over Sugar Hill — a large-scale development proposed by U.S. Sugar Corp. and pioneer ranch family Hilliard Brothers in northeastern Hendry County.
The groups are expected to oppose the development at today’s meeting of the South Florida Water Management District — although the project is not on the agenda.
U.S. Sugar Corp. and Hilliard Brothers are planning a 67-square mile development, according to the Palm Beach Post.
The Sugar Hill plan calls for 46 years of construction through 2060 that would add 18,000 residential units and 25 million square feet of industrial, retail, office and other commercial space to the area. [Palm Beach Post] – Christopher Cameron
