A family feud is fueling five foreclosure lawsuits in Palm Beach and St. Lucie counties.

Angelo and Charles Scardina are suing their son-and-brother-in-law Ramzi Akel for control of 2,440 acres with a combined value of $15.9 million in mortgages. The properties in question include an apartment complex and agricultural land. The Scardina family is attempting to target land acquisitions made by Akel, who according to their attorney has gone rouge and is attempting to shut the family out of the business, the South Florida Business Journal reported.

“Akel is trying to eliminate Scardina’s position in the family business and wants a bigger share of the business than he’s entitled to so the family is taking the necessary defensive tactics to protect the company,” attorney Lori Heyer-Bednar told the publication.

In the case of two loans that Akel took out, Heyer-Bednar argues that satisfaction notices were mistakenly issued and she plans to nullify them. [South Florida Business Journal]  — Frank Maradiaga
