Wellington village officials and locals have come to an agreement with a developer over a planned luxury apartment project behind the Isla Verde shopping center off State Road 7.

When the apartment plan was first pitched to the village planning board three months ago, it was panned, according to the Palm Beach Post. But this week, the Wellington Village Council voted in favor of the development.

The change is the result of a compromise between Isla Verde developers and nearby homeowners in Whippoorwill Estates and Stonehaven Estates.

“No one was more opposed to this project than me,” Jay French, a resident representing the Whippoorwill community, told the council Tuesday. “Had the project not changed as much as it did, I would not be here supporting it tonight.”

The developer was hoping to build 360 three-story, for-rent apartments. The new deal calls for 350 apartments and increases the complex’s buffer with the neighboring subdivisions. [PBP]Christopher Cameron
