Choices, choices for Airport City director

Instead of grounding the existing Airport City mixed-development planned for the entrance to Miami International Airport, two different committees are trying to determine the next course of action.

One committee has voted to give the airport’s director two months to decide whether to keep the current plan, change developers, develop only a portion of the 33.5-acre site or start over. Another committee is set to vote this week to give the director an ultimatum: stick with the current developer and develop less than a third of the site, or do a report on why a decade of negotiations has fallen through, according to Miami Today.

Officials are opposed to the developer, Coral Gables-based Odebrecht USA, because its parent company may have been working in Cuba. Changing developers now would likely bring the airport back to the drawing board, however.

The second committee’s plan, if voted through, would likely be debated alongside the first committee’s plan by the commission. [Miami Today] – Angela Hunt
