The former Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph regional headquarters in downtown West Palm Beach is on the verge of becoming a high-end apartment community.
Ram of Palm Beach Gardens is redeveloping the empty six-story building into an 85-unit rental complex to be called the Alexander Lofts, the Sun-Sentinel reported. Construction started last month on the community, which is scheduled to open next fall. The property is located at Fern Street and South Dixie Highway.
An affiliated group of companies, Ram is converting an 86,000-square-foot building that was designated as historic five years ago. The group is looking for proposals from artists for a mural on the east side of the building. Ram expects to select the winning artist by January. [Sun-Sentinel] — Eric Kalis
