Thanks in large part to the University of Miami Life Science & Technology Park in South Florida, Florida was named among commercial brokerage Jones Lang LaSalle’s global emerging life science clusters in a report released today.
The report names Central and South Florida as one of seven emerging life science clusters in the United States, and the 14th best ranked life science cluster in the Americas.
In addition to the Life Science Park, which includes development plans for up to five buildings and 1.6 million to 2 million square feet of space, the report also named the Lake Nona Medical City and the University of South Florida’s Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Stimulation as keys to the emerging hub. Meanwhile, existing science deals, such as BD Bioscience’s 90,000-square-foot facility and HeartWare’s 131,000-square-foot facility in Miami, contribute to the ranking.
Overall, the state has nearly 3.8 million square feet of life science research facilities, which ranks seventh in the nation. — Adam Fusfeld
