Lake Worth casino building set for $6M rehab

The city of Lake Worth has sent vacate notices to John G’s on the Beach and several other restaurants and shops in its oceanfront casino as it prepares for a $6 million restoration of the building and a $5 million rehabilitation of Lake Worth Beach. A groundbreaking is set for May 7, but the tenants have until May 31 to leave as construction isn’t slated to go into full swing until June. Of course, it’s not the first time the city has threatened tenants with impending renovations: three years ago, casino tenants were told that the building was structurally unsound, and that they would have to leave. But after additional building experts weighed in, the tenants were allowed to stay. Nonetheless, the city swears that, this time, the makeover is really happening. It has hired the Morganti Group to manage the 25,419-square-foot building’s renovation and tapped REG Architects to design the project, which is expected to take approximately one year to complete. John G’s, which is negotiating a lease for a new location in the meantime, plans to stay open during the Lake Worth Beach construction. [Palm Beach Post]
