Amcal Multi-Housing hopes to build a 64-unit affordable housing complex for seniors in Eagle Rock.
The unit of Agoura Hills-based Amcal led by Percy Vaz filed plans to build the two-building complex at 4900 North Eagle Rock Boulevard, Urbanize Los Angeles reported.
The four-story apartment buildings would replace four commercial buildings, including a church on an L-shaped property at Eagle Rock and Yosemite Drive.
Amcal would employ Mayor Karen Bass’ Executive Directive 1, which streamlines approvals for affordable housing.
Plans call for two, four-story buildings with 64 one- and three-bedroom apartments, and parking for 12 cars.
Amacal would use density-bonus incentives to permit a larger development than zoning rules allow in exchange for apartments for low- and moderate-income households.
The white, blue and gray stucco complex, drawn up by Iowa-based BSB Design, would contain ground-floor community rooms, with buildings flanking a small garden.
A cost and timeline for the development were not disclosed.
In 2021, Beverly Hills-based Panorama Senior Housing was approved to build a 109-unit assisted living center at the site, but it never broke ground.
Amcal Group of Companies, founded in 1979 by Percival “Percy” Vaz, has built more than 14,000 apartments, including affordable, student and workforce and market-rate housing, in California, Washington and Texas, according to its website.
