Those unwilling to pay $24 million for a top-floor condominium in Los Angeles can opt instead for a 21,400-square-foot mansion with an underground basketball court in north Scottsdale.
Owners Brett and Susan Hardt have put their seven-bedroom, eight-bathroom estate up for sale for $23.5 million at 24258 North 91st Street, in Prado Estates, the Phoenix Business Journal reported. The deal comes with 290 pairs of Michael Jordan sneakers, valued at $400,000.
Chicago native Brett Hardt, founder of TheBestIRS, which hires workers for insurance companies, is an avid hoops fan.
So in 2017, he and his English-born wife built their 4.4-acre estate, replete with a 80- by 50-foot basketball court 15 feet beneath their mansion. They built the court for their oldest son’s youth basketball team, because it was hard to find practice courts — then built the home around it.
An agency representing top NBA players visited the court and asked if they could run their pre-draft camp there for their future players, Brett Hardt said in a statement. “For six weeks, a group of 12 players trained here before getting drafted,” he said.
Before long, the nearly full-size court was attracting dozens of top players from across the nation, including the likes of Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul and Mikal Bridges. It has a professional scoreboard, a kitchen, a locker room with five bathrooms, a viewing loft and private parking.
Apart from the two-story main house, the estate includes a two-bedroom, 1,600-square-foot guest house.
The mansion features a golf simulator and a movie theater, a nine-hole putting green, five chipping pads and practice ranges from 10 to 65 yards. There are two resort-style pools, including one with a diving deck, and a separate spa.
Upstairs, the home features the Jordan Room, a museum-quality display of 290 Michael Jordan sneakers valued at $400,000, which are included in the sale.
Broker David Newman, founder of David Newman Partners and listing agent for the property, said the Hardts want to downsize to a home in the 6,000-square-foot range, now that their children have grown up and live in their own homes.
