Dana Point, an exclusive seaside city in South Orange County, is making waves with pricey listings.
A mansion with a $46 million ask was listed Oct. 11 at 63 Monarch Bay Drive, The Orange County Register reported. The price for the 7,700-square-foot house works out to nearly $6,000 per square foot.
The seller, Gordon Crawford, acquired the mansion for $33 million in 2022. The property is located in Dana Point’s exclusive gated community of Monarch Bay.
A $46 million house has the potential to break records as the priciest sale in Dana Point, which is about 14 miles south of Newport Beach, one of the prime hubs of luxury real estate in Orange County. But it has to sell for more than another current Dana Point listing.
In February, a nearly 10,000-square-foot mansion at 7 Strand Beach Drive was listed for $55 million, or $5,700 per square foot.
Overlooking the beach, 63 Monarch Bay comes with access to the private beach club managed by Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach resort. The four-bedroom, six-bathroom mansion also features Zimbabwe black granite countertops, Armani stone hearths and a soaking tub with ocean views.
It is listed by Samantha Nugent and Todd Davis of Compass, who represented Crawford when he purchased the home last year.
Crawford is a director emeritus for the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Foundation. He spent his career at financial services company Capital Research and Management, a subsidiary of Capital Group Companies in Los Angeles. He retired as its senior vice president in 2012.
