A home in Bel Air once owned by Johnny Carson’s ex-wife Joanne Carson is up for sale for $3.8 million as a teardown.
A set of plans, not yet approved, call for a seven-bedroom, 10-bathroom, 12,000-square-foot home on the property. The plans include a screening room, gym, and a 2,000-square-foot roof deck, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Carson’s former single-story home on the site has seen better days. It was built in 1951 and spans 4,000 square feet. Carson bought it in 1972, just after her divorce from the late-night talk show legend. Johnny Carson’s 7,000-square-foot Malibu home is also on the market. It got a $16 million price chop to $65.2 million earlier this year.
Carson is also known by her maiden name, Copeland. She was on a number of game shows in the 1960s and hosted her own television show in the early 1970s. She was a close friend of writer Truman Capote, who had a writing room at her home. She died in 2015, a decade after her husband’s death.
The property is owned by an Encino-based LLC that purchased it in 2016 for $2.8 million. The LLC is controlled by Carl Shakhnis, Leon Oransky, and Alexander Tsarevsky. [LAT] – Dennis Lynch
