PNK Group Investments is developing a 63-key Hyatt-branded boutique hotel in Hollywood amid what has been described as a hotel boom in that district and Los Angeles County.
The hotel, part of the Unbound Collection by Hyatt, will rise on 1525 North Cahuenga Boulevard, according to a company release. It will include 39 guest rooms, 24 suites, a ground-level restaurant, lounge and rooftop pool. Interstate Hotel and Resorts will manage the hotel.
The city had approved plans for a 55-unit hotel called “New Urban Experience,” in September. The architecture firm nKlosures designed that hotel, with renderings that portrayed a mid-rise structure with seven stories. It was setback on the third floor at the time.
There was no explanation about the change in hotel design. A representative from Hyatt did not return requests for comment. PNK nor nKlosures could be reached.
Hotel developer PNK of Hollywood has a number of hotel projects in the pipeline. It is renovating the Historic Core building at 419 S. Spring Street in Downtown into a 180-key business hotel. The Cambria Hotel and Suites branded hotel will be managed by PNK’s hotel management company, Oceans V. Hotel Management and Development. Other properties in PNK’s portfolio include the BLVD Hotel and Spa in Studio City. It also filed plans to build an nKlosures-designed, 43-room hotel at 1320 S. Flower Street in South Park in 2015.
The push for more rooms comes amid a major hotel boom in Los Angeles. Around 10,000 hotel rooms are expected to open in the next few years, according to a new report from Atlas Hospitality Group. LA County opened 4,300 new rooms in 2017, partly due to the completion of the 889-key Intercontinental Hotel at the Wilshire Grand.
Hollywood is in the midst of its own hotel spurt, as evidenced by the 200-key Thompson Hotel, 200-key Tommie Hotel and the 179-key Godfrey Hotel all under construction.
