Just a few years after the Gold Line Foothill expanded into the area, the City of Hope hospital complex is now looking to expand its complex in a massive project that could span 20 years.

If approved, the City of Hope plans to add on the existing outpatient clinic, inpatient hospital, research, office, industrial, warehouse and hospitality uses, according to the specific plan. The buildout would divide the plan into five distinct subdistricts: a 60-acre Core Medical District, 23-acre Transition Medical District, 8-acre Cultural Amenity District, 20-acre Infrastructure and Utility District and a five-acre Residential and Medical Flex District.

The Core Medical District would take up the central part of campus, featuring taller buildings rising as high as 140 feet above ground level. The Cultural Amenity District would serve as the entrance to the 110-acre campus. New parking structures and other infrastructure improvements are also planned for the site.

Overall, the proposed plan would require demolishing approximately 400,000 square feet of existing buildings to make way for a roughly 1 million square feet of new development. Construction would take place over four phases with completion slated for well into the 2030s. [Urbanize]Natalie Hoberman
