The Los Angeles entertainment arm of Amazon.com will occupy more than 280,000 square feet in the Culver Studios Mansion and Bungalows. Its studio, Amazon-owned IMDb, Amazon Video and World Wide Advertising will share the space.

Culver Studios was created by silent movie pioneer Thomas Ince in 1918. Its long list of blockbuster hits includes “Citizen Kane,” “Gone With The Wind” and “The Matrix.”

Real estate investment firm Hackman Capital Partners acquired the studios for $85 million in 2014. It currently has plans to expand the 14-acre site to make room for seven new buildings. Rumors circulated this summer that Apple was also shopping the property for its content division. [HR] – Natalie Hoberman
