From TRD LA: Thomas J. Barrack Jr. may be staying out of the spotlight regarding his buddy, President Donald Trump, but his recent house sale was nothing if not flashy.
The billionaire head of Colony NorthStar sold his 23,500-square-foot mansion on San Vicente Boulevard in Santa Monica for $34 million two months ago in an off-market transaction, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The Richard Landry-designed Neoclassical Colonial style home boasts an indoor sports court, professional home theater, seven bedrooms and a wine cellar. A 5,000-square-foot underground garage, swimming pool and spa can be found outside the property’s 1.35 acres.
Barrack purchased the site through a corporate entity in 2014 for $21 million, property records show.
The estate briefly appeared on the market last summer for $46.5 million. Should the property have sold at that price tag, it would’ve set the record for Santa Monica’s priciest sale. A home tied to Modern Family’s co-creator Steven Levitan currently holds the record at $41 million.
The billionaire investor founded Colony Capital Inc., now consolidated into Colony NorthStar Inc. He also serves as informal advisor to President Trump, though he declined a formal role in the White House.
