What’s in a name? That which we call a field
By any other name would smell as sweet.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have been quietly shopping the naming rights for the field in Dodger Stadium since spring. And they’re hoping for a home run with a price tag of $12 million per season, a hefty premium over other pro sports teams.
The stadium’s name will remain unchanged, a Dodgers spokesperson told the Sports Business Journal. But the name of the field or any of the adjacent plazas and clubs could be sold.
The Dodgers are owned by Guggenheim Partners, which bought the franchise for $2.15 billion in 2012. Mark Walter, founder and CEO of Guggenheim Partners, bought David Geffen’s Carbon Beach estate in May for a record $85 million. [Sports Business Journal] — Cathaleen Chen
