With 36 cranes in the Los Angeles skyline as of early July, La La Land has the second most visible construction of all the cities in the United States.

It’s topped only by Seattle, which has been the crane capital of the country for several years.

An additional seven cranes cropped up on the L.A. skyline since the beginning of 2017, despite work on the Wilshire Grand having wrapped up, according to a tally by construction analyst Rider Levett Bucknall.

New projects taking shape include the twin-tower project at 1212 Flower Street.

At No. 1, Seattle boasts 58 cranes as it rides out a historic development boom. L.A. is followed by Chicago, which has 34 cranes.

The L.A. boom may be showing signs of slowing, however.  The city saw a decline in construction permits in 2016, ending a six-year streak of growth since the recession. [Curbed]Cathaleen Chen
