Looks like art collector Adam Lindemann is testing out a new hobby: real estate.

But he won’t have to stray far from his roots — the investor and owner of the Venus Over Manhattan gallery in New York is pursuing a residential project in none other than L.A.’s Arts District.

Through an entity registered to his Madison Avenue gallery in New York, Lindemann filed plans Thursday for a 140-unit live-work complex at 641 South Imperial Street, city documents show.

The project also calls for nearly 15,000 square feet of ground floor commercial space and a four-level underground parking structure, as Urbanize first reported. Lindemann purchased the site, now occupied by a small office building, for $9.2 million last month, according to property records.

The development requires a general plan amendment as well as a zone change from manufacturing to commercial and a height limit change — which means it would be halted if Measure S passes.

Lindemann’s gallery has a Los Angeles outpost as well. Venus Over Los Angeles opened in 2015 at 601 South Anderson Street. The art connoisseur could not be immediately reached for comment.

Lindemann made real estate headlines late 2015 when he purchased Andy Warhol’s Montauk estate for $50 million. [Urbanize]Cathaleen Chen
