West Hollywood developer Jason Illoulian has a controversial new project in the works on his home turf.

Illoulian unveiled plans last week for a mixed-use project with hotel, residential and retail components at a site on the south side of Beverly Boulevard between Robertson and Clark Drive.

The plan, which was introduced at a community meeting, drew opposition from some neighborhood residents who were concerned about the height of the structure, WeHoville reported. Conservationists are also keeping their eyes on a particular structure on the site — the former Herman Miller furniture showroom, designed by the famous architect couple Charles and Ray Eames.

But Illoulian told Curbed that he plans to make the restoration of the Eames structure “the centerpiece of our project.”

The project would be divided into two segments, a low-rise three story structure near Clark, and a nine-story portion near Robertson. The low-rise component would comprise shops, restaurants and residential units on top, as well as a swimming pool on the roof. The nine-story portion would also have ground floor retail, topped by eight stories of luxury hotel rooms.

Illoulian already named the 130-key hotel the “Perry,” after his uncle who loved luxury hotels.

Faring purchased the 100 Oceangate tower in Long Beach  for $47 million last September, The Real Deal reported, and is an aggressive developer throughout West Hollywood. As of last fall, the firm was building three hotels, 1,000 residential units, and hundreds of thousand square feet of office space. [WeHoville] [Curbed] — Cathaleen Chen
