Ktown restaurateur plans 16-story hotel and condo development

The Line may soon have some competition. A local restaurateur filed plans Monday for a 16-story hotel and condo tower on the corner of Sixth Street and Hobart Boulevard in Koreatown, planning documents show.

The owner of the one-acre site at 3800 West Sixth Street is an entity linked to Chul Heay Shin, the owner of Myung Dong Kyoja, a Korean restaurant just two blocks down the street. The restaurateur is also affiliated with the now-shuttered Q Sports Bar on Harvard Boulevard, CoStar shows.

Shin acquired the four-parcel site for about $10 million in April 2015 from a local family trust, property records show.

His new project would have 50 or more hotel rooms on the second through seventh floors, as well as condo units on the second half. It would include ground-floor retail space.

Shin could not be immediately reached for comment.

Developers filed multiple plans for hotel hotel developments in the area last summer, including a 110-key complex at 679 South Harvard Boulevard owned by the Pak Kyong Trust.

Just a block south of Sixth Street, the mid-3000 blocks of Wilshire Boulevard are dominated by landlord Jamison Services, who filed at least seven multifamily projects in L.A. within three months last year.
