Coach Chris Holtmann, Wife Buy Lincoln Park Home for $4 Million

The new head coach of DePaul University men’s basketball team has brought some hops to Lincoln Park’s residential market.

Chris Holtman and his wife, Lori, paid $4 million for the three-story, 5,500-square-foot at 2118 North Magnolia Avenue, the Chicago Tribune reported. The price comes to $733 per square foot–about 400 percent above the average in the North Side neighborhood, according to data from realtor.com.

Baird & Warner’s Millie Rosenbloom represented the couple in the deal, but did not respond to a request for comment.

The Holtman’s deal was a vertical leap compared with the prior price paid for the home, which fetched about $1.2 million — or around $210 a square foot — in 2016.

The latest price reflects some factors beyond a standard residential deal. The address falls within the geographic territory of the Oscar Mayer offerings of the Chicago Public School District. The Lincoln Park lineup includes a coveted magnet school bearing the name Bavarian immigrant who rose from a laborer in the city’s erstwhile meatpacking industry to hot dog baron and household name nationwide.

It’s also built on a double lot, with extra width to accommodate a formal entry, living room with oversized windows and fireplace and a formal dining room with built-in buffet and display shelves.

Chris Holtman previously served as head coach of the men’s basketball team at Ohio State University in Columbus, and he and his wife still own a 6,500-square-foot home that they bought for $2.4 million in suburban Arlington in 2017.

Holtman parted ways with Ohio State in the middle of last basketball season and hired on with DePaul about a month later.
