Fresh off a three-year, $61 million contract extension, Chicago Cubs outfielder Ian Happ snagged a ritzy condo in one of Chicago’s hottest neighborhoods.

The seven-year pro paid more than $3 million for a 3,400-square-foot unit in a newly constructed, 16-story luxury condo building in the West Loop, the Chicago Tribune reported. The price comes to nearly $884 per square foot. Nancy Tassone was the listing agent.

The 58-unit condo building was developed by Sulo Development. The condo building wasn’t identified, but all signs indicate that it’s the Embry, at 21 North May Street. The only other West Loop condo building in Sulo’s portfolio is the Hayden, a 28-unit property that was delivered in 2019.

Last year, prior to the Embry’s completion, buyers paid close to $7 million on the 15th floor of the building, shattering the West Loop record for priciest residential sale. Only two other condo sales have crossed the $5 million threshold in the neighborhood —  a $5.6 million transaction in January 2022, and a $5.7 million deal in 2019.

Happ’s condo has three bedrooms, three-and-a-half bathrooms, herringbone entry floors, arched doorways and high-end kitchen appliances. It’s also adorned with Bovelli Custom Millwork cabinetry, Lefroy Brooks bathroom fixtures, and a living room fireplace from South Side manufacturer Atelier Jouvence, the outlet said.

The condo comes with a $937 monthly homeowners association fee.

Other professional athletes in Chicago have made splashy real estate purchases over the past year. Last summer, Chicago Bulls guard Coby White bought a six-bedroom, 7,000-square-foot mansion in Lincoln Park. His teammate, Ayo Dosunmu, paid $2.2 million for a 4,700-square-foot house in Wicker Park the following month.
