Sellers seek record $12M for Oak Brook mansion

A sale near the listing price would smash DuPage County suburb’s all-time high

A nearly $12 million price tag has made an Oak Brook mansion the most expensive listing ever tested in the western Chicago suburb.

Coldwell Banker agent Dawn McKenna is representing sellers Varsha and Mehul Shah, who own the seven-bedroom, 15,820-square-foot estate at 404 Fox Trail Lane in the gated Hunter Trails community, the Chicago Tribune reported.

No other home sales in Oak Brook have come anywhere close to the $11.99 million asking price. When buyers paid $4.75 million for a 6,670-square-foot mansion in the same neighborhood in June, it marked the priciest transaction in Oak Brook since 2009.

The listing hit the market as several DuPage County high-end sellers fish for some of the highest prices ever paid in the area. In May, the CEO of the Imperial Crane company and his wife listed an Oak Brook mansion for $7.9 million. Naperville’s DuPage County portion features a $10.5 million listing of a castle-like home at 1112 Shamrock Court thats been on-and-off the market since 2021.

And in August, a 17,000-square-foot Oak Brook home at 125 Breakendridge Farm sold for $$4.8 million after being listed early this year for $6.5 million.

A sale in the eight-figures ballpark is rare in Oak Brook, as the record in DuPage County was set in 2003 with a $7.95 million purchase. The seller of that property, former Chicago White Sox slugger Frank Thomas, originally sought $11 million for his 30,000-square-foot Oak Brook mansion.

The Shahs built the colonial-style brick mansion in 2009. The house had a property tax bill of $52,959 in the 2022 tax year, and the York Township assessor values it at $4.26 million, the newspaper reported, citing public records.

The Fox Trail Lane estate sits on a little more than an acre and rises three stories. The interior, designed by Timothy Corrigan, has 10 bathrooms, a temperature-controlled wine cellar, full-size gym, theater room  and a primary bedroom suite that has a coffee bar and fireplace.

Outside there are four balconies, a heated circular driveway, a fountain, and a private patio with an outdoor fireplace.
