A waterfront Lake Geneva mansion quietly changed hands last week for $16.5 million, extending a streak of ultra high-end deals in the southern Wisconsin getaway long coveted by Chicago’s elite.
The opulent property, owned by Dean and Eilena Athans through the Constantine Athans Trust, was discreetly sold without any online listing, Crain’s reported. However, photographs of the mansion can be found on the website of Lake Geneva Architects, the firm responsible for its design.
The more than 10,000-square-foot residence was built in 2017 on a 4-acre spread holding 261 feet of Lake Geneva shoreline.
The identity of the buyers remains undisclosed in public records. Nevertheless, the acquisition represents the highest sale price in Walworth County since a St. Charles resident purchased a Snake Road estate for $17 million in October, and subsequently demolished the historic mansion on the site.
The Athans sale has now become the most expensive this year in the Lake Geneva area, surpassing the $14 million transaction in June for a property on Loramoor Drive. In contrast, the highest-priced sale in the Chicago area for the year to date stands at $12.5 million, for the purchase of a lakefront mansion in Winnetka in July.
The publication could not reach the Athans. Additionally, David Curry, the Geneva Lakefront Realty agent representing both the sellers and the buyers, declined to comment, the outlet reported.
The Lake Geneva mansion market has been bustling as of late, with not only the aforementioned sales, but an $11 million Folly Lane listing also hit the market in August.
Notably, the priciest property currently available in Lake Geneva is an estate known as the Aloha Lodge associated with the families behind Chicago’s Drake Hotel, Illinois Tool Works, and Northern Trust, which was listed in May at a staggering $35 million.
