Former Chicago Cubs president Theo Epstein and his wife, Marie, recently sold their Lakeview mansion for slightly less than its original asking price in a deal that followed the couple’s much pricier purchase of an East Coast spread.

Buyers, whose identities have not been publicly revealed, paid $3.5 million for Epstein’s six-bedroom, 7,000-square-foot home in the North Side neighborhood at 3618 North Greenview Avenue, the Chicago Tribune reported. Jeff Lowe of Compass served as the listing agent.

The Epsteins first listed their brick and limestone mansion for $3.6 million in September 2022, though kept it on an agent’s private network rather than the more public multiple listing service for Chicagoland. The house briefly went under contract, but the deal fell through, prompting the couple to hire Lowe, who raised the asking price to $3.75 million.

Before selling, the Epsteins tried renting out the mansion for $19,000 per month, but that only lasted one month in December. The $3.5 million sale officially closed last week.

The couple bought the house for $3.25 million in late 2011, shortly after Epstein began his tenure with the Cubs. He’s now a consultant for the MLB. Their decision to sell the property follows their $11.9 million purchase of a Greenwich, Connecticut mansion last year.

Sitting on an extra-wide, 37.5-foot lot, the Lakeview estate has five full bathrooms, two half bathrooms, a living room with a custom limestone fireplace, a great room, theater room and large bar area. There’s also a patio, rooftop deck, wet bar and an attached four-car garage, the outlet said.

The mansion’s property tax bill was $46,320 in 2021.

Elsewhere in Lakeview, a 9,700-square-foot mansion, also on Greenview Avenue, sold for $5.7 million in October, which, at the time, was the only active listing greater than $4 million in the neighborhood.
