The 8,250-square-foot, 1880s-built estate at 1407 North Hoyne Avenue has hit the market at $6.95 million, the Chicago Tribune reported. Tim Salm of Jameson Sotheby’s is the listing agent.

Donald Wilson Jr., CEO and founder of trading firm DRW Holdings, bought the property for $4.8 million in 2021. Several weeks later, Wilson purchased the adjoining coach house for $1.47 million from a separate seller, giving him control over the combined 0.34 acres.

After buying the home, Wilson performed a major overhaul, which included the reattachment of both houses. The renovations stirred up Wicker Park residents. Wilson had to present his plans before the Wicker Park Committee community group and the Commission on Chicago Landmarks.

The red-brick mansion with castle-like character was originally built for beer baron John H. Rapp. It’s regarded as one of the most distinct landmarks in the neighborhood and is part of a walking tour called Beer Baron Row — a stretch of historic homes on Hoyne Avenue.

The house has five bedrooms, five-and-a-half bathrooms, four fireplaces, two offices, two laundry rooms and a traditional turret. There’s also a large playroom, wine room, kitchen with a butler’s pantry, kitchenette, walk-in storage room and a custom mudroom, the outlet said.

Outside, there’s two limestone terraces off the main level, an outdoor kitchen with a built-in grill, a third terrace on the garden level, a two-car garage and a separate coach house.

In 2021, the tax bill on both structures was around a combined $60,000.
