Cook County’s sales volume of single-family homes nearly doubled last month, as the well-underway spring market continues to show strength despite rising interest rates and a cooling market.
In March, 2,272 sales topped $944 million in volume, up from 1,399 deals for nearly $549 million in the month prior.
Emily Sachs Wong, a top broker with @properties Christie’s International Real Estate, bagged last month’s priciest sale, with a $5.5 million deal for a Lincoln Park home sold on the last day of the month. Brian Loomis of Coldwell Banker Realty was the buyer’s agent.
Here’s where March’s single-family home sales took place:
The Lincoln Park home that gave Wong the crown for March is at 2118 North Hudson Avenue. The 9,000-square-foot home was built in 1890, and includes a four-car garage and coach house. Originally two separate townhouses, the previous owners redesigned and rebuilt the homes before selling.
In February, the highest sale price was a suburban home at 711 Lake Avenue in Wilmette. The home, which belonged to Gregg Kaplan, founder of DVD rental service Redbox, sold for $4.2 million. The sale of the 10,500-square-foot home closed on Feb. 7 for more than its asking price. High-end homes have rarely sold over their listing prices in the Chicago area as of late.
Mary Baubonis with @properties Christie’s International Real Estate represented the Kaplans as the sellers while Paige Dooley with Compass represented the buyers on the deal.
Cook County’s median sale price last month of $317,500 was also up about 6 percent from the month prior, when the metric clocked in at $299,900.
